“Do you not know that in a race all the runners compete, but only one receives the prize? Run in such a way that you may win it. Athletes exercise self-control in all things; they do it to receive a perishable wreath, but we an imperishable one.”

1 Corinthians 9:94-25 (NRSVCE)

First, I wish all my American readers a happy Thanksgiving. May your holiday day be filled with love and gratitude. We certainly do not live in a perfect nation, for that is impossible this side of heaven. However, let’s take a moment to be grateful to live in a country that, if only for tradition’s sake, still sets aside one day to rest from our labors and acknowledge that we have much to be thankful for. Even if you can only thank the Lord for the breath in your lungs, do that.

And for heaven’s sake, also take the time to rest if you can. Sit in silence. Sit in nature. Or sit next to the record player with your whisky in hand. Whatever you do, find a moment to put your black mirror down, step away from the distractions of the internet, and be present to nothing but your heart, soul, and mind.

For those of you who might have missed my last post, I’ll be sharing videos featuring various Bible verses every so often. I started doing this at work to share God’s word and have been encouraged to share them here. If any of these videos strike your fancy and you’d like to save them for yourselves, shoot me a message and I’ll be more than happy to share them with you directly.

May God bless you and yours.
