A Comment on X

It's definitely time to go.

While I try to stay away from news and comments on the news, this is just bugging me so I’m just going to have to say something.

If you, for some reason, still have an X (formerly Twitter) account now is the time to jump ship. And parents, make sure your kids don’t have access to the platform. I say this because Elon Musk’s company is now allowing users to post adult content (pornography) so long as it’s “consensually produced and distributed.” The problem is that we know how this will go.

Much like Pornhub, X will undoubtedly (willingly or unwillingly) begin to feature content that is sadistic, violent, and abusive, and will likely aid (or at least not hinder) the exploitation of children. Sure, it may get “taken down” if found but once it’s on the internet, it’s there forever.

The other troubling aspect is that X will also allow for the posting of nudity and pornography generated by AI. This will undoubtedly lead to the production of pornography featuring the likeness of people without their consent, and there’s nothing to stop that before it gets posted.

I understand that X is a private company and can technically allow whatever content it wants, but (obviously) just because something is legally permissible does not make it morally acceptable. We, especially us Christians, have to draw a line somewhere.

Also, pay attention to how other social media platforms respond. If the others notice an increase in X ad revenue (which, unfortunately, I believe they will), you better believe the likes of Snapchat, Instagram, and even Facebook might consider such a move. Remember, they don’t care about your feelings, they care about your attention. The longer you look at the screen, the more impressions are made. The more impressions are made, the more ads are sold. The more ads are sold, the more money they make. Make no mistake, these are businesses and it’s all about the bottom line.
