I'll admit that I've kind of avoided Wallen because he's SO popular. But this is a nice tune and I reckon I can give his music a chance. There has to be something decent about it for so many people to be fans.
Definitely hear the Levee influence you point out in the second song. Something about it reminds me of STP too. Good share!
JJ CALE is boss! My dad did the responsible thing and gave me an education of his music. I went a-huntin on finding this post and I found some goodies.
"Mannish Boy" by Muddy Waters ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bSfqNEvykv0 ) but this version is summed up in a comment on that youtube: "I think what makes this song so special is how raw it is. The guitar and harmonica are mixed perfectly to where they sound like one instrument. Muddy Waters’ voice gruffly hums over this kick ass instrumental while this guy is screaming his brain out in the background. This whole song sounds like he just walked into a bar and is performing it as everyone starts rioting. Timeless song."
Before I found that one, I found this one, which has that absolutely iconic chicago harmonica (sorry I'm a week early): Sell My Monkey by Karen Carroll and Rudy Rotta: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i5rcqI_4Pco
How Mannish Boy is just now being added to the playlist is beyond me. It's a classic blues staple, and I love this recording. That comment is spot on.
Sell My Monkey is so much fun!! I'll have this one on repeat today, for sure. And don't worry about being a week too early. I'm sure you can find another harmonica tune by next week.
I've found Jack White to be a smart guy who pays attention. One of my favorite movies is "It Might Get Loud" documentary with him, Jimmy Page and the Edge.
Oh, it's fascinating. It explored their musical backgrounds and influences individually, and they all three get in a room and just talk and do music - learning from one another and geeking out together.
My first song for this week is on the country side, but with a definite blues undercurrent in the lead guitar:

And my second song is a garage rocker, also with an undercurrent of blues that is reminiscent of When the Levee Breaks.

His music is a little basic, but his songs are catchy and well written. If you've never heard it, check out his dynamite version of Cover Me Up.

The guy is a true talent. He absolutely pays attention. I've not seen that but it sounds very interesting!

When I was playing, I tried different cuts of meat as part of my blues name. Top Sirloin Putzke, Filet Mignon Al. But nothing has that special ring like T-Bone Walker. So even though it Wednesday, here’s my tune for the week. https://open.spotify.com/track/1i7nQGgwloILcp6ZftH2Qa?si=Lwe_-wmnS2yMD3i1s-tSHQ
Always a good time for Stormy Monday!
I just ran across this FB group. Might not be as cool for you youngsters, but I grew up with a lot of these blues legends. https://www.facebook.com/share/9hEVNg5EE56P2tWr/?mibextid=adzO7l
